The term procedure is from the 1610s, "fact or manner of proceeding;" 1670s, "particular action or mode of conducting an action;" from French procédure "manner of proceeding" (c. 1200), from Old French proceder "to proceed."
Which way do we go? What is the best course of action to achieve our goal? What are we trying to accomplish? How do we get to our objective? Writing a procedure to answer the questions is a methodical way of getting to your goal. If you are not keeping score then you are practicing.
